About the Service

FREE, local Health & Buggy walks to help you to get or to stay active.

Health Walks - Aimed at anyone keen to move more, including those living with one or more health conditions.  We offer a range of walks at different levels.  We can adapt routes and pace to suit whoever attends so please don't be put off if you are worried you might be too slow or need to stop for rests.

- Stepping Steady - our beginners walk aimed at those living with 1 or more health conditions and needing some support to get more active. Every Monday at 1.30pm.  We either meet at the Esplanade (opposite the old West Kirk) or at Lyle Gateway (31 Union St) if the weather is wet. This group walk for between 10-30 minutes with bench rests as required. We also try to do some strength & balance exercises each week too.  On wet days we use the indoor hall and play Boccia, Body Boosting Bingo or strength & balance exercises instead. This walk is suitable for those new to exercises or who are referred by a community physio or OT. (after

- Monday walk from Your Voice (51 Hamilton Place)  starting at 1pm.  1 hour walk followed by a free cuppa back at Your Voice at 2pm for 30 mins.

- Wednesday Gourock Walk - Meeting at Gourock train station concourse at 10.40 for 10.45am start.  We offer a few options on this route so you can pick the pace that's right for you.  Option 1 - Stroll walk is our short gentle walk (30-45 minutes with bench breaks for rests). Suitable for those progressing from our Stepping Steady walk.  Option 2 - our standard health walk, Option 3 our faster paced 'Stride' walk.  All options start at the same time and are led by trained Walk Leaders. We have a monthly social (post walk) where we head to St Johns Church hall after the walk for a cuppa, cake and a fun quiz.

- Wednesday evening walk - 7pm from the Royal West of Scotland Boat Club (RWSABC) - meeting from 6.50pm for 7pm start. After a walk along the Esplanade and back we head into the boat club for a free cuppa and chat.  Lots of benches on this route so if a walker needs to rest you can do that and re-join the group on the way back again.  Currently there is steps to access the Boat Club so this venue is not suitable for those with limited mobility.

- Thursday Port Glasgow Walk - Meets outside the West entrance to the Health Centre (overlooking the car park) at 12.55 for 1pm start.  1 hour walk which ends at 7 1/2 John Wood street where we enjoy a cuppa and chat.

- Friday Belville Gardens Walk - Meeting outside Belville Community Gardens office and kitchen at 10.55 for 11am start.  1 hour walk and walkers are welcome to join Belville for the Soup & a Blether community lunch 12-1pm (payment by donation).  Lunch seats must be booked with Belville in advance (walkers usually book for the following week at the previous weeks walk).

- Explorer Walks - Join us on our monthly 'Explorer' walk when we pick a new location and often venture a little further.(up to 2 hours) Previous walks have included Largs, Wemyss Bay, Erskine, Kilmacolm. We use public transport and advertise the walks via our monthly update email.  Ideal for those who want to walk a little further and who are keen to check out different walk locations.  Usually the last Tuesday of each month.

- Themed Walks - throughout the year we offer extra themed walks.  These are open to anyone registered with us and include guided cemetery walks, history walks, photography walks etc.

Buggy Walk -  every Wednesday at midday from Lyle Gateway (31 Union St).  1 hour walk down and along the Esplanade ending back at Gateway at 1pm. Open to all parents/carers/grandparents with pre school age children. After the walk we join Gateway's Parent & Baby Community Cafe where you can purchase a cuppa and/or lunch and enjoying relaxing with other parents/carers. We have space for buggies, high chairs, toys and playmats.

Please register before attending your first walk. Once registered you can attend any of our weekly walks.
