Trustees' Week - Ardgowan Hospice

Trustees' Week - Ardgowan Hospice

"I took on the role and responsibility of being a trustee so that in a small way, I was able to contribute to and support the wonderful work carried out by the staff and volunteers"

Let's hear from Ardgowan Hospice as they celebrate their incredible Board of trustees.

Message from CEO Graham Gardiner: "Trustees are the heart and soul of charities. They are volunteers who take legal responsibility for the organisation, set its direction, and ensure that the charity is run responsibly and effectively. We're very lucky at Ardgowan Hospice to have an amazing group of volunteer trustees. During Trustees’ Week, it's good to take the time to thank them for their hard work and commitment. Thank you."

We chatted to two of the Board about why they signed up to be a trustee.

Sheena MacFarlane

Position: Trustee/ Chair of People, Culture & Engagement Committee

I have an education background having worked for 40 years in several schools within the Inverclyde area.

As very much an Inverclyde person, living and working in Inverclyde, I have always tried to support the work of the Hospice. I took on the role and responsibility of being a trustee so that in a small way, I was able to contribute to and support the wonderful work carried out by the staff and volunteers.

Gillian Maxwell

Position: Trustee at Ardgowan Hospice, on committee for People, Culture & Engagement. My day job Community Engagement Manager

I'm passionate about our community and proud to be from such a wonderful area. I’m involved in a few different community groups, and finding ways to engage our community in activities and events. As well as being a proud Greenockian, I’m a community councillor.

I was delighted to be invited to participate in the process of becoming a trustee. Like many people in Inverclyde, I’ve been aware of Ardgowan Hospice and the important work they do to support people with life-limiting illnesses, bereaved children and also those patients receiving palliative care.

I could see the changes being made at the hospice across the previous months and hearing more of the direction, made me want to participate more.

I love serving on the PCE committee anywhere we really strive to make Ardgowan Hospice the best place to work.

Now, being part of that group of trustees working in partnership to shape and then deliver the strategic plan over the next few years, it’s an exciting time to contribute, collaborate and learn from my fellow trustees and staff at the hospice.
