The Warm Hand of Friendship fund is money made available by Inverclyde Council, administered by CVS Inverclyde, to create a network of warm spaces in Inverclyde communities. Anyone in the community can come along to one of the warm spaces: whether to keep their own energy costs down or to meet friendly faces.
Let’s meet some of the groups who have received funding to set up a warm space.
We chatted to Ian Brown, secretary of Gourock Park Bowling Club: “we at Gourock Park bowling club are providing a warm space with entertainment. We are also providing a warm place to the local band the Skelppies to practice at no cost.
“Any people local to the clubhouse are welcome to come along.”
“It's really important for local people, given the current economic situation, that places like ours are available providing a lifeline to vulnerable people.
“Don't feel embarrassed using facilities like ours, you will be given a warm welcome with a chance to make new friends.”
Ian told us they have received feedback from one individual at the Club attending their warm space: "I'm an environmentalist, live on my own and have no paid work at the moment – three" great reasons for taking up the Warm Spaces offer at Gourock Park Bowling Club.”
