About the Service

Lingo Flamingo is a not-for-profit social enterprise using language learning as a therapeutic platform for older adults, including those living with dementia, in care homes, community groups and day centres across Scotland.

Lingo Flamingo exists to make language learning interactive and accessible. We do this because we want everyone to experience the joy of learning a second language and to gain from the health benefits of bilingualism: language learning can double cognitive recovery in strokes and delay the onset of dementia by 5 years! It’s not just good for the brain, by putting fun first, our language classes leave behind the boring grammar, endless repetition and mindless memorisation that characterised many people’s school experiences of language learning, in favour of a relaxed, informal environment in which students can connect with their classmates, have a laugh and enjoy the journey of linguistic and cultural discovery.
